Tourism Excursions

Our partners at Qatar Foundation have worked with Qatar International Adventures, a well-known tour operator in Doha, to offer several tourism excursions at discounted rates for WCSJ2011 delegates interested in exploring the culture, history and nature in Qatar..

 Unlike the fieldtrips which are sponsored by the conference, participants will have to pay for these trips themselves.

 Participants interested in these trips can reserve them in advance but the booking must be confirmed 24 hours in advance with full payment. Payment can be done at the front desk in Ezdan hotel or at the conference venue in Education City.

 Please note that refunds will not be possible in case of cancellation less than 24 hours before the trip.

 

North of Qatar (Historic tour)

09.00 am till 15.00 pm – Full day tour including lunch

Depart from Ezdan Towers

 

An air–conditioned bus with guide will pick you up for your tour to the North of Qatar. Included is a picnic lunch at a local cafe for the full-day trip. Water and soft drinks will be available throughout the trip. A one hour drive takes us to the North to Al Khor City to see the country boats being built by craftsmen. A good place for photographs! Next arrive at the Thakhira Mangrove swamp at Al Khor and watch the   Birds at Al Thakira. Soft drinks and water served. We will then visit an old deserted Qatari village where the original homes were made of limestone and mud mortar. We will then drive to the extreme Northern tip of Qatar. Al Shamal from where Bahrain is visible on a clear day. En route we will stop at a small café to eat lunch and drink tea/coffee. We then drive to Ruwais to a traditional Arab family Majlis with its own pet falcon. Drive to Al Zubara Fort and the Excavations for a 60-minute stop while our tour-guide will give you the history of the Fort. We then leave for Doha City-arriving at approximately 3PM.

Camel Track, Sheikh Faisal Museum & Equestrian Club

From 09.00 am till 13.00 pm or From 15.00 pm till 19.00 pm

9am will depart from Ezdan and 3pm will depart from the conference venue               

 

Guests will be picked up in an air–conditioned bus accompanied by an English speaking tour guide. The Museum is 45 Km west of Doha and it is the private collection of cars and goods of one member of the Qatari Royal family. Next stop will be camel race tracks where camel training or racing can be seen in season. The camels have robot-jockeys strapped on their backs. On the way back to Doha, we visit the equestrian club or the Amiri Stables where the priceless magnificent race horses of the Amir are cared for and stabled.

Doha City Tour-by day or night

Over The Sand Dunes Half Day Safari

From 09.00 am till 13.00 pm / From 14.00 pm till 18.00 pm

9am will depart from Ezdan and 2pm will depart from the conference venue               

 

The adventures journey will start by heading towards South of Qatar with one stop at sea line beach resort. The 4 x 4 professional drivers will deflate the tires to make the vehicle ready for the dune bashing and your breathtaking trip across the desert & over the sand dunes more enjoyable. The drive will take us to the marvels inland sea area near the Qatar, Saudi Arabia boarders and back. During the journey there will be two stops to give you the opportunity for unforgettable picture taking. Soft drinks and water are included.

Full Day Desert Tour

The adventures journey will start by heading towards South of Qatar with one stop at sea line beach resort. After we arrive at the camp, you will enjoy the view of the sand dunes, the beach site.

  3. The camp is equipped with Bedouin style tents, carpeted and with traditional seating

Dhow Cruise

From 16.30 pm till 20.30 pm

Depart from the conference venue

 

Guests will be picked up from the hotel in an air–conditioned bus & take you to the Dhow harbor where the traditional Qatari Wooden Dhow will be waiting for you. The cruise is preceded by a safety briefing on the Dhow and before sailing. The traditional Qatari Dhow will take guests to Al Saflia Island while our professional chef will start preparing the BBQ dinner on board while you are enjoying the water, air and the view.

  2. Traditional Qatari wooden Dhow capacities of 45 / 50 persons.

Water Sports Activities

Guests will be picked up from the hotel in an air–conditioned bus & take you to the Dhow harbor where the traditional Qatari Wooden Dhow will be waiting for you. Safety briefing will be given upon getting on the Dhow and before sailing. The traditional Qatari Dhow will take you to Al Saflia Island while soft music is being played in harmony with waves of the sea. The activities will start after anchoring at the island. The Activities vary from jet skiing, banana and doughnuts and water skiing.  Our professional chef will start preparing the BBQ lunch on board while you are enjoy the day.

Fishing Trip by traditional Qatari Wooden Dhow

From 14.30 pm till 20.30 pm

Guests will be picked up from the hotel in an air–conditioned bus & take you to the Dhow harbor where the traditional Qatari Wooden Dhow will be waiting for you. Safety briefing will be given upon getting on the Dhow and before sailing. The traditional Qatari Dhow which is equipped with the required fishing equipments will take you to the fishing spots where you will enjoy fishing and competing with your friends. Our professional chef will start preparing a BBQ meal on board while you are enjoying the water, air and the view. Our chef will clean, prepare, marinate the day’s catch for you to taste the delicious fresh gulf fish.

Guests will be picked up from the hotel in an air–conditioned bus & we will take you to the Dhow harbor where the Speed boat will be waiting for you with fishing equipment & an experienced captain to take you to the fishing areas. Water and soft drinks are included.
